Dan Rockett
|
Dan’s first solid head rush was aquired while spinning in circles in the basement of his childhood home, listening to “Sugar Mountain” by Neil Young, and “Strawberry Fields Forever” by The Beatles. By the time he hit the ground for the first time he was completely sold on the concept of music. The pots and pans were raided on a regular basis, and painfully beat into submission with a wooden spoon, much to the dismay of his parental units. Dan left his home in Rhode Island and moved to Boston to read a book. It was good! He read another, and another….... After four years of this someone gave him a piece of paper that said he didn’t have to read books anymore. So, he decided to put all of that reading to practical use, and did the only logical thing that he could think to do…..he became a full time musician. It’s fun! Since his move to California, Dan has been fortunate enough to meet and play with some incredible musicians. He has a stand-out track on the Tupac Shakur album, THE ROSE THAT GREW FROM CONCRETE. The song, “Sometimes I Cry”, is an acoustic ballad that Dan wrote and performed using Tupac’s poem as the lyrical foundation. He also had the incredible honor of learning the art of songwriting from one of Rock’s greatest producers, Bob Ezrin(Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Kiss, Lou Reed, Jane’s Addiction….). The month’s spent with Ezrin helped Dan realize the importance of every word chosen and every note that goes into telling the story behind the song. You can also find Dan’s guitar work on the new Macy Gray Album, produced by Justin Timberlake and Will.I.Am. Dan is currently putting together a new band to support his newly recorded concept album SONGS FROM THE BLACK MARKET. Though the album has yet to be mastered, a few songs have been added to his myspace playlist. Please check them out, and enjoy the music!es.

Dave Preston
|
Enjoy Your World”, both the philosophy and the title of Dave Preston’s third full length studio album, captures the world of emotion that exists within Preston’s fullest sounding recording to date.
Producing and engineering the album himself, Preston broke his tradition of using recording studios in order to work day and night on the songs and find the core of the material. ‘This is the best thing I’ve done, hands down,” says Preston, “I’ve rediscovered the electric guitar and with it, the reason you write songs. It’s that rush you get when you hit that big chord and the walls crash down around you.”
Dave Preston began his career as one third of rock band The Echo, playing lead guitar and sharing singing duties. Several years later, he embarked on a solo career, recording his first full length offering entitled “Who I Used To Be”, garnering radio play and performances around Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.
In 2005, Preston released his first all acoustic album “Reality”, which included fan favorites in their most stripped down and bare form. Some of these songs are reimagened and in some cases, torn apart and reconstructed on “Enjoy Your World” which took over a year and a half to complete. “When you listen to the record, you are hearing the last year and a half – two years of my life. I’ve never put so much into an album and I’ve never gotten so much back. This is the most authentic thing I’ve ever done.”
This new album combined with a new energetic live show, see Dave Preston getting ever closer to his ultimate goal of a no-barriers connection with the audience.

Til Willis
|
Legendary producer Willie Mitchell (Hi Records) once said of Til Willis, that he should have guessed he was Mississippi, but couldn’t figure out where he got his sound from, because it was anything from Mississippi. Then he slapped Mr. Willis on the back, and said the big boys better watch their backs, because, “Til Willis ain’t no waffle-pop”.
In 2008 Til will release his sixth album, Rumors of A City. The album is a return to lyric driven rock, that while it may draw comparison to Springsteen or U2, it is all Til. A far cry from the Americana acoustic esthetic of 2006’s Cindershine, Rumors of A City is as electric as metropolises it was recorded in. Six cities in fact were used to there fullest to birth this album: Memphis, Santa Cruz, Cotati, Denver, Ouray, and Sebastapool. In Memphis Til enlisted the talent of legendary horn player Wayne Jackson (of The Memphis Horns & The Mar-Keys), and Willie Mitchell to lay down horn parts for new songs such as Sensation and Studyin’ The Rain.
2008 will also mark fifteen years that Til has been a performing singer/songwriter traveling high dirt roads, and low paved roads sharpening his craft and passion into a fine pointed spear. In that time Til has blazed through stages from San Francisco, CA to Nashville, TN, and all points in between with his powerful voice, inventive guitar work, and masterful, sometimes haunted, songs. Songs that echo a time when music meant something, and wasn’t a disposable commodity. As a headliner Til comes across as fearless and vulnerable at the same time, reflecting not only the aloofness of a songwriter who is always looking down the road, but the empathy of a storyteller trying to make a connection. As an opening act, Til has shared the stage with the likes of The Subdudes, blues great Jesse Robinson, folk legend Pete Seeger, Fainting Goats, Mel Melton and the Whicked Mojos, and Dante Schmitz. John Magnie, of the Subdudes, has said that, “Til is a great songwriter with lyrics that seem to come from some place much older than his years.”
When Til was a small boy riding in the car to his grandparent’s house he heard Get Off of My Cloud by the Rolling Stones, and had an epiphany. It was that day that he committed himself to music, and that since of commitment runs through all that he creates. With the passion of a man with hellhounds on his trail Til has plowed his on row in fifteen short years, six albums, and well over five hundred live performances.

Tiffah & The Autumn Film
|
The Autumn Film formed in August 2006. Although a young band, they are a group of seasoned musicians. Their release Safe & Sound (January 2007), produced by Robbie Seay (EMI) “is an emotive and mature work by an artist exploring the challenges, heartaches, and successes of life. Full of reflections on vulnerability, loss, recovery, and survival, one gets the sense that the composer has experienced real human growth and is now ready to emerge. Leading her very capable band on keyboards, Tifah Al-Attas is accompanied by guitarist Reid Phillips, drummer Dann Stockton, bassist Juli Royster, and violinist Aubrea Alford” (J. Jacoby, ColoradoMusicBuzz).
With a captivating sound, The Autumn Film’s live show grabs attention as the Westword’s Dave Herrera writes, “[The Autumn Film] turned in a stellar performance as polished as it was enchanting. With her jet-black pigtails and black plastic frames, Tifah Al-Attas, the band’s namesake and leader, has a quaint, Mary Katherine Gallagher look that belies her majestic voice. Her mates, meanwhile, exhibit masterful dynamic sensibilities and have a commanding on-stage presence.” Influences from Patty Griffin, Radiohead, and Death Cab for Cutie marry together making The Autumn Film who they are

Reed Foehl
|
Reed Foehl first jumped onto the music industry radar as the lead singer of the Boulder CO based jam band Acoustic Junction. Their first two independently issued albums, Love It for What It Is (1991) and Surrounded By Change (1994) along with a relentless touring schedule won them both critical acclaim and a devoted cult following. As the band developed and survived several lineup changes the “acoustic” description no longer fit all of their material. Foehl, along with Acoustic Junction’s core musicians Tim Roper, Curtis Thompson and Matt Coconis went on to sign with Capricorn/Mercury Records and released their major label debut under the name Fools Progress (1997). A return to the better-known Acoustic Junction moniker preceded the 1999 release of Live 5-4-99 and Strange Days appeared early the following year.
A prolific songwriter, Foehl penned much of the material on the Acoustic Junction/Fool’s Progress albums while still finding time to compose many songs not intended for the “band” repertoire. In 1995 what began as a brief getaway to Crested Butte CO. turned into informal recording sessions which then became Leo’s Song, his first solo album. Still committed to his work with Acoustic Junction, he realized that writing and recording of his more personal material was always on the horizon. In 2001, Acoustic Junction parted ways and Foehl launched into a full time solo career. The charismatic performer soon found a devoted audience turning out for his appearances at well-heeled venues in Boulder, Denver and Los Angeles. In 2004 he released his second solo album Spark through his own NFR label. Born in Boston and growing up in Dover, MA, Foehl has always maintained ties to his native New England and frequently returns there on tour, along with stops in Philadelphia and New York. He has opened for a number of today’s noteworthy recording artists including Patty Griffin, Taj Mahal, Dave Matthews and most recently on several shows with Ray LaMontagne. Along the way, Foehl has caught the attention of motion picture/television music supervisors and his original songs have been featured in a number of productions including the feature film Just Friends (New Line Cinema), Laguna Beach (MTV), The Biggest Loser (NBC), and Breaking Bonaduce (VH1).
Reed Foehl’s latest album is entitled Stoned Beautiful. It is composed of 11 stunning original songs, which are straight from the artist’s heart. ” I think it’s the first record that I’ve recorded that comes the closest to a true representation of my music and where I come from. There was a great vibe happening on these sessions. Although it’s a studio recording all the songs were basically live takes… there is no fancy cover up just the raw, real truth.” -Reed Foehl

Dan Craig
|
Dan Craig is a realist and a dreamer. The fusion of these traits lead him down an interesting road. He has experienced the emotional high of being accepted into medical school knowing his future was secure. He experienced a similar emotional high when he left medical school to pursue music knowing his future had no certainty. All night study sessions turned into late nights at Denver bars and music venues. Through it all, Craig’s romanticism and realism are woven together in the songs on his new album, Wirebird. A native of Denver, Colorado, Craig’s artistic desires pulled him to the guitar at an early age. He put his first band together in 7th grade before his voice changed and continued to compose and collaborate with other Denver musicians through high school. During Craig’s senior year he was faced with a choice between his passions for music and science. At the crossroads, Craig chose an education at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a B.A. in Biology, Music remained an integral part of Craig’s life throughout his academic pursuits. His days spent in books, his nights gigging at local Philadelphia venues. He returned to Denver to work in cancer research and eventually landed at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Wirebird was recorded Fall River, MA in the fall of 2006 and is the reason Craig left his second year of medical school. The new record boldy drifts throught he confusion of crossing from youth to adulthood. The songs are technically impressive and still emotionally evocative with the lyrics genuinely exploring the highs and lows of love and loneliness. There are introspective glimpses into his own experience and stories told in the third person sharing the lives of people searching for hope and security. In the single, “Anything Less”, Craig’s wavering and expressive voice cries, “Sarah’s scared about love, she’s wondering if the blood’s enough that she’s made of, cause this equation just won’t balance with biology.” The song ends like the album, without an answer, but with the encouragement that “every tearful sunset is a sunrise somewhere else.” Appropriately, Craig has innterpreted his experiences and abstracted them to a truth his audiences resonate with. His music assures us that there are few absolutes, but time brings relief and freedom. So we can “go out boldly”. These songs may not be the place to look for answers, but Craig’s clever guitar work and melodic approach make the perfect soundtrack to our own searches and struggles.

Coles Whalen
|
After fronting her LA-based rock band for two and a half years, Coles Whalen knew it was time to jump start a solo career. She released an EP, bought a truck and camper, and never looked back. In the next 12 months, she played over 150 venues across 10 states in the western U.S.
“Her voice has more than enough power to carry a rock anthem, but she prefers to use that power to sustain her gentler, more pensive moments. Her pitch and articulation – vocal and instrumental – are flawless” wrote Malcolm McCollum of Steppin’ Out Magazine, a local Denver newspaper. Coles Whalen sold well over 2,000 copies of her first CD right out of the back of that truck.
Parking the camper, Whalen recorded a full-length album, Gee Baby, in February of 2005. But the camper didn’t stay parked for long. In the next year and a half, Coles Whalen played over 600 shows throughout the entire United States and sold more than 7,000 CDs. She has performed both solo, with her new band, and has shared the stage with Melissa Ferrick, Reckless Kelly, The John Butler Trio, William Topley and Tyler Hilton among others. Ricardo Baca, Pop Music Critic for The Denver Post said of Whalen’s live performance “Whalen delivers an absolutely great show, she left a lasting impression on me.”
Whalen is releasing her third album, “Nothing is Too Much” in March of 2007 on Iconic Records (Indie.) A national tour to support this release will definitely be coming to a venue near you.).

Josh Queen
|
When a chance encounter with a homeless man in a Denver parking lot left singer-songwriter Josh Queen thinking about how quickly people judge one another, a song was in the making. There comes a time in every songwriter’s life where the stories songs tell move from personal experiences to the things happening in the world around them. For this 27-year old songwriter, leaving the comforts of home in the Southeast was a catalyst for that change. The result is an introspective catalog of songs that examines the every day interactions people share and a reinvigorated passion for connecting with his audience. Josh’s love for music began at the ripe age of 12 in Aiken, SC, when he picked up his first guitar and taught himself how to play. After graduating from Clemson University, where he formed the band Upstart Jackson, Josh headed to Charlotte, North Carolina. While there, he established himself as one of the Queen City’s most promising musicians, touring the Southeast with his band and recording two EPs, This Is Me Movin’ On and A Life Less Deceiving. “Maybe,” a single from the latter record, won Josh an Honorable Mention in the 2004 Billboard World Song Contest and was included on Alternative Addiction’s Vol. 6 compilation disc.

Blue Light
|
Blue Light formed as collaboration between Jess Mefford (vocals) Jamie Mefford (guitar, vocals) and Jack Leahy (guitar, lap steel). After years of working in different bands of various styles, they decided to come together to form Blue Light. Blue Light quickly became established in the strong Denver songwriter scene. They were named in the class of 08’ by the editor of the Westword as one of a handful of bands to watch for in the coming year. They also received praise from the Colorado Music Buzz as a new band to watch for. Built on a foundation of solid songwriting, and musicianship, Blue Light fills a void in the acoustic music scene, drawing on a range of influences from Radiohead and Wilco, to altcountry, Blue Light has found a way to blend their influences into a spacious, yet grounded experience.
